FEEL4 can reveal if you are in the right job

FEEL4 can reveal if you are in the right job

Without any doubt, one of the biggest things to living a contented life is the job you do and how you feel about doing it.

Step 2 of FEEL4 is a very simple way to reveal to yourself whether or not you are in the right type of work.

For those of you who haven’t read the FEEL4 guide or undertaken the free course, step 2 of the formula is all about listing out what energizes you to want to achieve step 1 which is your focus (what it is you want to achieve).

Let me show you how you can reveal how you feel about your job by writing out a simple four step path:

FEEL4 PATH (A JOB YOU HATE TO DO)

FOCUS

I am focusing on doing my job as a call centre operator

ENERGIZE I feel energized to want to do my call centre operator job because ...

If you reach step 2 and find yourself unable to list out anything that energizes you to want to do your job then it is likely highlighting the obvious: that you are most in need of a new job and possibly a career change.

So let’s do another path but for a different job you love doing:

FEEL4 PATH (A JOB YOU LOVE TO DO)

FOCUS

I am focusing on doing my job as a YouTube Vlogger

ENERGIZE I feel energized to want to do my YouTube Vlogger job because …

- I get a buzz from sharing my world with people

- I love video editing

- I have just got a sponsorship deal with one of my favorite brands

- My girlfriend loves what I do and is proud of me

- I am invited to many YouTube events and meet my kind of people

- I am in control of my daily schedule …… etc …...

Can you see the difference in energy? Can you see how there is no need to stop and think about what energizes you when you are doing the right type of job? That point is important. If you are really struggling to think of any reasons you feel energized to do your job then you are in need of a change. Basically, the more you are forcing yourself to list out what you love the more likely you need a new job.

Clarification

I must point out that having been someone who has worked in all manner of jobs. I have been a cesspool cleaner all the way to a Chief Operating Officer for a global company. I have done the lot and I can wholeheartedly tell you from experience that feeling energized about a job is not just about the job title. I have been happier and more energized working for a temping agency moving furniture than I was getting paid six figures and working in London.

The point of this particular use of FEEL4 runs much deeper than the example paths I have shown. For example, it may be you are working as a call centre operator and even though it is not the exact job you love compared to being a film star, you still might be able to reach step 2 and quickly list out energizing factors that show you are in the right job. These factors may be:

- I fancy the receptionist

- The job is only 1 minute walk from my front door which means I can sleep in longer and get home for lunch and in time to watch my favourite show

- The job pays me 100 times more than my dream job which means I can retire in a few years and do my dream job!

Can you see how looking at what energizes you about doing a job is sometimes not as obvious as you might think.

Furthermore one of the main things about FEEL4 as a self improvement formula is the fact it encourages you to be positive and optimistic in whatever situation you find yourself in. So if like me (in the past) you are in a job you hate but you have no choice to keep doing it due to circumstances (usually your family) then you can use FEEL4 to turn your thinking around. Let’s do this for the first example:

FEEL4 PATH (A JOB YOU HATE TO DO)

FOCUS

I am focusing on doing my job as a call centre operator

ENERGIZE

I feel energized to want to do my call centre operator job because …

- I have a nice boss

- My wife is proud of me for doing something she knows I hate

- I get to walk past my favourite park every day

- By sticking to this job I can afford to do my Open University degree to apply for local jobs doing what I love ...

I hope this is making sense? As I mentioned in this post FEEL4 is such a universal formula that it can adapt to everything. As long as you understand its principles it will act as a life guide to making you feel better in the situation you are in right now.
